FINELINE PRINTING – The environmentally conscious printer

Fineline Printing is committed to playing its part in protecting the environment.

To that end, we have instituted a stringent auditing program and achieved certification as an accredited Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) member.

FSC, which is Chain of Custody certified, is an international, not-for-profit organization that promotes responsible and sustainable forest management.

The FSC trademark on client products re-assures our customers that their products originate from sustainable managed forests.

In addition to our commitment to the FSC accreditation and introduction of certified stock, Fineline has adopted other environmentally-friendly work practices and initiatives.

On the Pre Press front, Fineline uses computer to plate (CTP) technology, which eliminates the use of film and reduces the use of chemicals to produce printing plates directly from a computer. The plates are produced using recycled water and we are in the throes of moving to “processor less plates.”

In the pressroom, Fineline has acquired modern multi-colour presses, with advanced automation, therby shortening the make-ready times, reducing spoilage and improving productivity and quality. These presses are equipped with water saving filters and an inverter that reduces wasteful energy consumption.

More recently, we have moved to vegetable-based printing inks as an environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional mineral-based inks and introduced chemical and solvent reduction programs that have resulted in a 70% cut in the use of Isopropyl alcohol. Further, we are now using solvents that release only low-volatility organic compounds.

Fineline Printing is committed to meeting the on-going challenge of reducing the company's carbon footprint by educating and encouraging our staff to pursue environmentally-sound work practices at all times.

Our policy of working "cleaner and greener" - and searching constantly for new ways to protect the environment and reduce waste - is based on the premise that the small things we do today will make a big difference in the future.
